The construction of new change rooms at two sporting venues located within the Gannawarra is on track to be completed by August.

Building works at Riverside Park, Kerang and the Macorna Recreation Reserve have been occurring throughout the current football and netball seasons, with the new facilities to primarily benefit female participants once completed.

Both projects have reached the framing stage, with the installation of external walls to be completed in the coming weeks.

“Both the Kerang and Macorna communities identified during the development of the Gannawarra Shire Council Plan 2017-2021 the importance of sport to their community,” Mayor Lorraine Learmonth said.

“The construction of these facilities at both locations will encourage girls and women to take part in physical activity, with participants to also benefit from modern amenities.”

Once completed, the new change rooms at Riverside Park, Kerang will be home to the Kerang Football Netball Club women’s football side, with the team one of the founding clubs of the Northern Country Women’s League.

“The Blues have benefited from the increasing popularity of women’s football and AFLW, with the team the only open-age women’s football team located between Bendigo, Echuca and Mildura,” Mayor Learmonth said.

The new change rooms at the Macorna Recreation Reserve will benefit both the Macorna Football Netball Club’s netballers and visiting players to the venue.

“These works will also have a flow-on benefit for umpires who officiate at the venue, with match day officials to use the current netball changing facilities for game day preparations once the new building is complete,” Mayor Learmonth said.

Construction of both facilities is being supported by the State Government’s Community Sports Infrastructure Program for Female Friendly Facilities, with the fund providing $100,000 to each of the projects.
