Residents are encouraged to support the community this weekend, with many of the Gannawarra’s traditional Easter events to occur.

Community groups and organisations will spend the coming days finalising arrangements for numerous events happening throughout the municipality, ranging from sporting competitions, art exhibitions and markets.

“For many of our community groups located in the Gannawarra, this year’s Easter events will be the largest held since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic,” Mayor Charlie Gillingham said.

“These events not only benefit the groups that host these celebrations, but also our local retailers and accommodation providers, which rely on the income generated by the influx of visitors to the Gannawarra.”

Kerang’s traders have united to host events during the week, including an Easter Bunny hunt and photos with the Easter Bunny.

Good Friday will see the start of the Rotary Club of Kerang Art Show, the eight-day Kerang Bowling Club Easter Carnival and four-day tennis tournaments at Cohuna and Kerang.

Murrabit’s two-day Easter tennis tournament begins on Good Friday, with the town’s largest event – the Easter edition of the Murrabit Country Market – occurring on Easter Saturday.

Alexandra Park, Kerang will host patrons for the first time since late 2019 with the 140th running of the Kerang Turf Club Cup on Easter Saturday, with the opening of the Kerang Quilters’ tri-annual Quilt Show also occurring on the same day.

Meanwhile, Cohuna will mark Easter Sunday with a special edition of its monthly Farmers and Makers Market.

“Visitors to all of these events are encouraged to adhere to all COVIDsafe measures in place and, most importantly, to stay home if feeling unwell,” Mayor Gillingham said.

“Council wishes those who are putting together these renowned community events the best of luck and that these celebrations are a success.”
