Gannawarra Shire Council will sponsor up to six community members to attend Showcase Victoria, occurring in May 2020 at Bendigo’s Ulumbarra Theatre.

Australia’s leading State-based performing arts marketplace, the two-day event provides a unique platform for producers, artists and theatre-makers to make connections and showcase their work to a wide range of venue managers and programmers.

“Council has sponsored community representatives to attend Showcase Victoria for a number of years, with feedback from attendees playing a role in determining our annual arts and culture program,” Mayor Lorraine Learmonth said.

“It is fantastic that Showcase Victoria is being hosted in rural Victoria in 2020 and this offers a unique opportunity for our local community to be involved in this high profile event.”

Community members interested in attending need to submit their interest by emailing arts@gannawarra.vic.gov.au by 31 December 2019. Previous Showcase Victoria attendees are eligible to apply.

“Applications must include an email address and phone contact number, name of nearest town, whether they have attended Showcase Victoria previously, and why they would like to attend Showcase Victoria in May 2020,” Mayor Learmonth said.

Following attendance, successful applicants will be involved in selecting productions for the Gannawarra 2020/21 Arts and Culture program, ensuring a diverse range of events occur across the Shire.

Successful applicants will also help to develop community partnerships and logistics for selected productions, as well as facilitate connections within and between communities around the performing arts.

“This is an opportunity for community members to be supported to build their skills and capacity around the performing arts,” Mayor Learmonth said.

“I encourage at least one representative from each community across the Gannawarra to nominate.”
