Children impacted by remote learning during the COVID-19 pandemic will benefit from a Gannawarra Shire Council-supported mentoring program.

Council’s Community Care team in partnership with Carers Gateway has added the Gannawarra In-Home Education Support Service to its range of programs, which provides study support and mentoring to local schoolchildren.

“Many children living in the Gannawarra spent time last term learning from home, and for some, returning to school for Term 3 studies may be daunting,” Council’s Director of Community Wellbeing, Stacy Williams said.

“The Gannawarra In-Home Education Support Service is a confidential service that can assist students who are anxious about returning to classroom studies.”

The program, which began in Term 2 as children completed studies at home, will be expanded to support families managing the return to a COVID-safe society.

“Whether it is assistance with school subjects or a mentor to talk to, the Gannawarra In-Home Education Support Service is assisting children during these different times,” Mrs Williams said.

“The only requirement for participation in the program is that children receiving this support live in the Gannawarra Shire.”
