The confirmation of meeting dates and times for 2021, the awarding of the Cohuna Skate Park tender and a decision to reduce the fee for re-registering caravan parks by 50 per cent for the 2021 calendar year highlighted Gannawarra Shire Council’s November meeting.

Held at Northern District Community Health’s Kerang headquarters, the meeting was the first monthly meeting for the new Council following the declaration of the results of October’s elections.

One of the important tasks undertaken at the meeting was the confirmation of meeting dates and times for Council meetings during 2021. As in previous years, meetings will be held on the third Wednesday of the month at 6.30pm, except for January, with no meeting scheduled for the month.

Meanwhile, the Cohuna Skate Park redevelopment will proceed in early 2021 after Council awarded Haley Constructions the tender to undertake the $600,000 project. The works – supported by a $250,000 grant from the State Government’s Local Sports Infrastructure Program – will rejuvenate the popular facility, built in 2003.

Councillors also agreed to provide financial support for the 10 caravan parks located within the municipality, reducing re-registration fees for the 2021 calendar year by 50 per cent. The reduction in fees are part of Council’s ongoing support to businesses and residents impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, with initial restrictions implemented in March 2020 and the second Victorian lockdown affecting caravan park operators.

Other matters adopted during the meeting included:

  • Councillor representation on local, regional and State organisation committees for 2020/21;
  • Authorising the establishment of a new Gannawarra Shire Municipal Emergency Management Planning Committee in accordance with the provisions of the Emergency Management Legislation Amendment Act 2018;
  • The acceptance of the final version of the 2020 Annual Report, with the document to be provided to the State Library of Victoria and placed on display at Council’s offices for inspection; and
  • Confirmation that Australian Citizenship ceremonies are scheduled for 26 January 2021, 6 April 2021, 6 July 2021 and 5 October 2021.
