The release of Council’s 2022/2023 Proposed Budget for community feedback and the awarding of the tender for the Sustainable Water for Quambatook Project highlighted Gannawarra Shire Council’s May 2022 meeting.

Held virtually via Zoom and broadcast via Council’s website, the major item of discussion was the 2022/2023 Proposed Budget, where residents can now have their say on by visiting www.gsc.vic.gov.au/budget.  Feedback can be provided until 5pm Monday, 6 June 2022.

Residents are also encouraged to have their say on the Draft Gannawarra Shire Council Asset Plan 2022-2032, with feedback accepted by 5pm Wednesday, 1 June via www.gsc.vic.gov.au/yoursay

Meanwhile, Council awarded Earthwork Civil and Construction the tender for the Sustainable Water for Quambatook project – a  transformational project that involves installing infrastructure that will isolate flows at the Quambatook Weir Pool. Other features of this State Government-supported project include developing a five-kilometre walking trail and pedestrian bridge crossing over the Avoca River between Quambatook and the town’s weir, as well as installing boardworks, a jetty and boat ramp.

Other outcomes from the meeting included:

  • The endorsement of five reviewed policies
    • Councillor Allowances and Support
    • Fraud and Corruption
    • Compliance
    • Asset Disposal and Rationalisation
    • Diversity
  • The noting of Council’s 2021/22 Quarterly Budget Report as of 31 March 2022;
  • The noting of the annual review of Council’s Domestic Animal Management Plan;
  • Deferring a decision regarding a planning permit for a rotational outdoor pig farm for up to 5,000 pigs at Gannawarra until after a meeting is held with Councillors, the permit’s applicant and objectors; and
  • A request for Councillors to receive reports regarding the structural integrity of pools that Council has care, control and management of. This report is to be presented at the July 2022 Council Briefing.
