Celebrations highlighting the role Family Day Care educators play in developing the Gannawarra’s youngest residents will be held next week at Cohuna and Kerang.

Gannawarra Shire Council will join municipalities across Australia to mark National Family Day Care Week, which recognises and promotes the important role family day care educators and services play in the development and wellbeing of more than 107,000 children across Australia.

“Here in the Gannawarra we are fortunate to have Family Day Care educators based at Cohuna, Leitchville, Murrabit and Kerang, who provide quality childcare in small groups, in comfortable, safe, home environments,” Council Chief Executive Officer, Tom O’Reilly said.

“Family Day Care educators provide care for babies through to pre-teens during work hours, before or after school, during school holidays and in some circumstances overnight and on weekends.

“Educators also play a key role in developing children that take part in the popular program by providing opportunities for activities and experiences to enhance social, emotional, intellectual and physical growth.”

As part of National Family Day Care Week, a Teddy Bear’s Picnic will be held for Kerang-based Family Day Care educators and children, whilst Cohuna-based Family Day Care educators and children will participate in an Active Day Picnic.

“Council thanks our local Family Day Care educators for the role they play in supporting our youngest residents and are always looking to expand our team,” Mr O’Reilly said.

“Family Day Care educators have the flexibility of running their own business and developing tailored education programs based on each child’s individual developmental needs, interests and experiences.”

Anyone interested in becoming a Family Day Care educator is encouraged to phone the Gannawarra Shire Children’s Centre on (03) 5452 1357.
