Motorists using the Patchell Plaza car park at Kerang are benefiting from increased security measures.

Works to install CCTV cameras and extra lighting within the car park, located on the corner of Albert and Wellington streets, Kerang, were completed late last month.

The $70,000 project, which benefited from a $50,000 grant from the Community Crime Prevention Victoria’s Public Safety Infrastructure Fund, involved the installation of nine CCTV cameras and three light towers within the car park.

Extra lighting has also been installed in the garden beds along the Wellington Street side of the car park, which will benefit pedestrians walking through the area.

“Efforts to ensure our communities are welcoming, inclusive and safe for all is one of the goals outlined in the Gannawarra Shire Council Plan 2017-2021,” Mayor Lorraine Learmonth said.

“Thanks to these works, visitors to the Kerang central business district will benefit from increased security, which in turn promotes a greater sense of feeling safe.

“The lights and CCTV cameras are also powered by solar panels, which will keep the operational costs of these items low.”
