The Gannawarra Library Service and Gannawarra Shire Council’s children’s services will celebrate National Simultaneous Storytime this month, joining festivities planned across Australia and New Zealand on Wednesday, 25 May.

The annual Australian Library and Information Association event aims to promote the value of reading and literacy, using an Australian children's book that explores age-appropriate themes, and addresses key learning areas of the National Curriculum for primary school-aged children.

“Gannawarra Shire Council is proud to again be supporting National Simultaneous Storytime, which is celebrating its 22nd year,” Gannawarra Shire Council Chief Executive Officer, Tom O’Reilly said.

“Locally, the Gannawarra Library Service and our children’s services program have embraced National Simultaneous Storytime celebrations, with events a highlight for children and staff members alike.”

This year’s celebrations will see families, kindergarten educators and school teachers gather at 11am AEST on 25 May to read Josh Pyke’s book, Family Tree, which is a heartfelt celebration of family, community and the seasons of life.

“Children at the Gannawarra Shire Children’s Centre and Koondrook Kindergarten will gather to hear the story read by our dedicated staff, whilst Family Tree will be read at the Rhyme Time session occurring at Kerang’s Sir John Gorton Library, which begins at 10.30am,” Mr O’Reilly said.

“Council is also pleased to be hosting an event at Koondrook Primary School involving Gannawarra Library Service staff.”
