Drought Communities Programme – Extension projects

During 2020, Gannawarra Shire Council rolled out a number of initiatives, activities, events and infrastructure projects supported by the Federal Government’s Drought Communities Programme – Extension.

Council was eligible to apply for $2 million in funding after the Federal Government classified Gannawarra Shire Council as a drought-declared municipality in September 2019.

Council announced in December 2019 the list of projects that would be supported by $1 million of funding, known as Stage 1, with these projects to be completed by 30 June 2020.

An announcement of projects that were supported by a further $1 million of funding, known as Stage 2, was made in May 2020, with these projects completed by 31 December 2020.

Benjeroop

Stage 2

  • Benjeroop Hall/Museum extension

Cohuna

Stage 1
  • Cohuna Recreation Reserve entry improvements
  • Cohuna Recreation Reserve multi-use scoreboard
  • Cohuna Recreation Reserve cricket training grounds improvements
  • Events support

Stage 2

  • Installation of 15-amp power outlets at various locations for food vendors and events
  • Event on Gunbower Creek
  • Events support

Dingwall

Stage 1

  • Dingwall Hall restoration works

Kerang

Stage 1
  • Enhancement works along the Kerang Regional parkrun course, including the installation of directional signage and picnic facilities
  • Fire services at the Kerang Museum and Kerang Lawn Tennis Club precinct

Stage 2

  • Permanent dance floor/games space at Atkinson Park
  • Installation of 15-amp power outlets throughout Atkinson Park
  • Purchase of kayak launching facilities and fishing platforms

Koondrook

Stage 1
  • Koondrook Historical Society church improvements
  • Senior Citizens Rooms kitchen upgrade
  • RV dump point installed at Koondrook Recreation Reserve

Stage 2

  • Koondrook RSL clubrooms accessibility improvements
  • Koondrook Recreation Reserve Pavilion upgrade

Lake Charm

Stage 1
  • Installation of exercise equipment
  • Walking track improvements
  • Lake Charm Memorial Hall kitchen renovations
  • Assessment of energy saving technology at Lake Charm Memorial Hall

Stage 2

  • Lake Charm Hall roof and spouting renewal works
  • Installation of shade sails over exercise pod

Lalbert

  • Town entry improvements
  • Addition of showers to public toilet block
  • Installation of solar panels on Lalbert Community Complex roof

Leitchville

  • Leitchville Memorial Hall improvements
  • Recreation Reserve playground fencing

Macorna

Murrabit

  • Installation of raw water system to provide a non-potable water supply for key town precinct areas
