Rural Access Awards

Gannawarra Shire Council is supporting the 2012 RuralAccess All Abilities Sports Star of the Year Quarterly Awards for people with a disability.  The awards recognise the contributions and achievements of people with a disability in their capacity as an athlete, volunteer, committee member, administrator or coach in the sport and recreation sector within the Gannawarra Shire in the categories of Junior (under 18 years of age as at 31 December 2012) and Senior (18 years and over).

The Awards are selected on a quarterly basis:

  • January - March 2012 (nominations close Friday 13 April 2012)
  • April - June 2012 (nominations close Friday 13 July 2012)
  • July - September 2012 (nominations close Friday 12 October 2012)
  • September - November 2012 (nominations close Friday 7 December 2012).

There are a range of selection criteria for the prestigious award including that the person nominated must be a permanent resident of the Gannawarra Shire and their disabilities are considered to be those unrelated to ageing, which might include intellectual, physical, sensory, acquired brain injury, neurological impairment, mental illness, dual disability, or any combination of the above.

Winners of the quarterly awards will receive a Certificate of Achievement, sports voucher (partly supported by Kerang Sports and Toys) and acknowledgement through the local media and community for their achievements.  The All Abilities Sports Star Awards of the Year will be chosen from the quarterly junior and senior category winners and announced at the Gannawarra Shire Council International Day for People with a Disability celebrations on a date and venue to be advised.
