Home>Media Release - Aged And Disability Services Responds To Heat
| Council would like to make Aged and Disability Services clients aware that some services may need to be postponed due to the extreme weather conditions we are currently experiencing.
All high needs clients will receive their service as normal; and personal care services, respite care and meals on wheels services will not be affected.
However, the delivery of domestic care and property maintenance services will be assessed each morning, with delivery depending on the forecast temperature.
In order to ensure that as many services as possible can be delivered, Aged and Disability care staff have been asked to carry out as much work as they can in the morning, to avoid the heat of the afternoon.
“Our home care staff have been instructed to alter their schedules so that most services are provided in the morning,” said Aged and Disability Services Coordinator Carole Wandin.
“Staff will be more comfortable working before the heat of the day sets in and the changed times will also ensure that a greater proportion of clients will receive domestic care, even on hot days.”
Ms Wandin said that clients should take working conditions for domestic care workers into account.
“Clients can assist workers by providing cooling wherever possible, particularly when they are carrying out heavy duty tasks. As we all know, it’s not very pleasant making beds or vacuuming in the heat.”
If services must be postponed, Aged and Disability Service administration staff will contact clients prior to the planned visit to inform them that the visit will have to be rescheduled.
“We would like to thank Aged and Disability Service clients for their cooperation and understanding during this heat wave,” said Ms Wandin.
“We would also like to remind them to keep cool and make sure they drink plenty of water.”
