Community Transport

There are a number of different public transport options available within the Gannawarra Shire.

Cohuna Community Bus 

The Cohuna Community Bus is available for hire/drive by individuals, groups and organisations, for the purpose of transporting frail aged and/or people with a disability. The service is managed by the Cohuna Community Bus Committee which comprises representatives from the Gannawarra Shire Council, Cohuna & District Hospital, Cohuna Retirement Village, Cohuna/Leitchville RSL and the Cohuna community.

Full Day Hire: $40.00                             

Half Day Hire: $20.00

Kilometres travelled (in excess of 10km) are charged at an additional $0.60 each.

Kerang to Echuca Trial Bus Service 

The Southern Mallee Transport Connections Partnership (SMTCP) and the Gannawarra Shire Council are trialling new bus services that will travel from Kerang to Echuca (and return) on the first Tuesday and the third Friday of various months for a period of six months.

November is an exception, with the bus travelling on the second Tuesday.

These new trial bus services will link the towns of Kerang, Murrabit, Koondrook, Barham, Cohuna, Leitchville, Gunbower & Torrumbarry with Echuca.

Multi Purpose Taxi Program 

The Multi Purpose Taxi Program provides members with half price taxi fares, paying up to $60.00 per trip. To be eligible people must have a disability that restricts their ability to access public transport on their own.

V/Line 

Information, reservations and ticket sales are available by telephoning V/Line on 136 196 or by accessing their website.

Travel Vouchers 

Many pensioners and Senior’s Card holders are given free travel vouchers to travel on public buses and trains each year. These can be used to travel for any reason, including for medical appointments. You will need to book your seat and exchange your voucher for a proper ticket at your local V/Line agency before you travel.

Gannawarra Non-Emergency Transport Service (G.N.E.T.S) 

What is G.N.E.T.S?

GNETS is a new community transport service that as been developed to assist people to access their specialist and/or health care provider in larger regional and/or city areas.

GNETS has been designed to take the worry out of long distance transport.

Regional Medical Companions 

Regional companions are available to assist people to travel on public transport from their home to Bendigo or Melbourne for medical appointments.

Volunteer companions can travel with you, keep you company, and assist you to link in with a Travellers Aid or use public transport once you reach your destination.

Travellers Aid  

Travellers Aid provides volunteers to assist you from your country train or bus platform at the Flinders Street and Southern Cross Stations in Melbourne to your medical appointment whilst in the city.

The volunteer companions take the worry out of using buses, trams and taxis whilst in Melbourne and can accompany you on whichever mode of public transport you prefer.

Bookings are essential and a minimum 24 hours notice is required.
