Our History
The Kerang Branch of the library service had previously been located at 48 Wellington Street in Kerang for 26 years in what was originally a ES&A bank building. Since becoming automated, and providing a public internet service, the library building became increasingly inadequate with limited space and inappropriate access.
After shire amalgamation in 1996, the Kerang Library was joined by Cohuna and Leitchville to become the Gannawarra Library Service.
New Headquarters
The new headquarters in Kerang was commenced in May 2002, with a projected finish date of June 2003. The new location is adjacent to the Murray Valley Highway and has proven to be of added interest to tourists and passersby in general. The new Sir John Gorton Library in Kerang was finished in July 2003 and a 'Community Open Day' was held in August 2003. The official opening took place on September 11 2003.

The Cohuna Branch of the library service is located within the municipal offices in King Edward Street, Cohuna. The library staff comprise one full-time, one part-time and two emergency/backup members as well as a library page.
The library was originally located in a small building directly in front of the municipal offices. After the amalgamation of Kerang and Cohuna shires the library was moved within the municipal offices. In September 2006 it was again moved and now shares a refurbished space with Council Customer Service.
The Cohuna Library is open every weekday and Saturday mornings.

Leitchville Library is located in King Albert Avenue in Leitchville, and is open to the public Tuesday afternoon and Thursday morning.
This small one-roomed building is a busy library with a friendly atmosphere. The staff at Leitchville is made up of one enthusiastic staff member, one emergency/back-up staff member and one voluntary page.

The Quambatook Transaction Centre now also serves as an Agency for the Gannawarra Library Service, where members of the public can register, borrow and return books.
