Kerang to Koondrook Rail Trail Study
Gannawarra Shire Council is committing $15,000 towards a feasibility study in connection with the proposed Kerang to Koondrook Rail Trail, a level access cycle trail which would follow the line of the disused Kerang to Koondrook tramway.
Mayor Neville Goulding said the trail has previously been identified in the Shire Tracks and Trails Strategy as a tourism infrastructure opportunity.“The study will look at the practicalities and costs of establishing the trail broadly along the same line as the former Kerang to Koondrook tramway.”
The study will be led by consultants Inisght Communications (who are currently also working on Council’s Tourism Strategy) who have direct experience in this field.
The project is due to commence this week and consultation with local groups and interested parties will be held over the coming two month period.
The study is due to conclude by May 2014 and thereafter the results will be considered by Council and relayed to the community.
