Council » Latest News » Australian Governor-General To Visit Gannawarra Shire Australian Governor-General To Visit Gannawarra ShireThe Australian Governor-General, Ms Quentin Bryce AC, and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE, will be visiting Gannawarra Shire next Tuesday 24 May 2011. Her Excellency Ms Bryce visited Kerang by helicopter when the town was isolated by flood water and now returns after the flood to speak with community members about their experiences of through the flood event. Community members are welcome to an informal gathering with Her Excellency and Mr Bryce 6.00pm - 7.30pm Tuesday 24 May at the Kerang Valley Resort Function Room. A warm country supper of soup and roast meat rolls with tea and coffee will be provided. Those who register to attend are invited to bring along the photos and memorabilia of their experience of the flood event, and how it impacted their lives at the time and still may today. RSVP as soon as possible or no later than noon Monday 23 May to the Kerang office of Gannawarra Shire Council T. (03) 5450 9333 for the Kerang gathering. Unfortunately places are limited. During her visit the Governor-General will also visit the Benjeroop community and local people impacted by the floods. Gannawarra Shire Council Mayor Cr Max Fehring said Council welcomed the Governor-General and Mr Bryce back to the Shire. “We look forward to sharing the community experience of the flood relief and recovery process with Her Excellency,” Cr Fehring said. “I encourage the community to attend the Kerang gathering, which will be attended by representatives from all around the Shire.”
