Take Care as School Returns

School starts in Victoria this week and Gannawarra Shire Council is reminding motorists to take special care to drive safely within speed limits and observe road rules, especially at school crossings.

“The message is to be alert, take your time, drive safely and drive within the speed limits, especially around school crossings,” Council Director Infrastructure, Planning and Regulatory Services Geoff Rollinson said.

“There are a range of significant penalties for not observing these road rules but the biggest concern is that back-to-school is a happy and safe time for our kids and drivers in the Gannawarra Shire.”

Mr Rollinson said commitment to the ongoing safety of our school children was also one of the key reasons for members of the community to consider nominating a School Crossing Supervisor for the 2012/2013 School Crossing Supervisor of the Year Award.

“Community support for this program will help make sure your School Crossing Supervisor is shown appreciation for their commitment to the safety of our school children,” Mr Rollinson said.

Nominations close on Friday 30 March 2012. For nominations forms go to http://www.schoolcrossingsvictoria.com.au/dmdocuments/Nomination&eligibility.doc or pick up a form from the Kerang or Cohuna offices of Council.

Completed forms can be sent via mail to School Crossings Victoria INC, PO BOX 3032 Mornington 3931 or email info@schoolcrossingsvictoria.com.au.
