WELLS BRIDGE WORKS UPDATE

Media Release

Works are progressing on the Wells Bridge development with the concrete deck now laid.

Director Infrastructure and Development Geoff Rollinson said Council have now commenced works to the approaches.

“This next phase of works will see construction of the approaches to the new bridge with the laying of road base and bitumen,” Mr Rollinson explained.

“Council reminds residents that the bridge is still closed to all vehicle traffic, so please plan ahead and make alternative arrangements for your travel during this closure period.”

Once completed, Wells Bridge will be a two lane concrete bridge with increased capacity to withstand high mass loads, a significant upgrade from the one lane timber and steel structure that was previously in place.

The bridge replacement is being supported by $838,000 in funding from the Federal Government under Round Two of the Bridges Renewal Program.

It is anticipated that the bridge will be re-opened in the coming weeks.
