WELLS BRIDGE WORKS AND CLOSURE

Media Release

Gannawarra Shire Council wish to advise residents that Wells Bridge at Benjeroop will be closed to all vehicle traffic from 30 January for 6-8 weeks.

Director Infrastructure and Development Geoff Rollinson said the closure is required as the bridge is being fully replaced.

“This next phase of works will see the demolition of the existing structure and construction of a new bridge,” Mr Rollinson explained.

“Residents are reminded to plan ahead and make alternative arrangements for their travel during this closure period.”

Once completed, Wells Bridge will be a two lane concrete bridge, a significant upgrade from the one lane timber and steel structure that is currently in place.

Gannawarra Mayor Brian Gibson said the upgrade will make a significant difference to travelers.

“The Wells Bridge upgrade will ensure the safety and usability of the transport network in the western part of our Shire,” he said.

The bridge replacement is being supported by $838,000 in funding from the Federal Government under Round Two of the Bridges Renewal Program.
