 WELLBEING PROMOTED THROUGH FIVE STEPS

MEDIA RELEASE

The Five Ways to Wellbeing are being promoted across the Gannawarra Shire to encourage healthy lifestyles, mental health and social connections.

Throughout October and November Five Ways to Wellbeing tea bag cards and magnets will be distributed.

Mayor Brian Gibson said that the Five Ways to Wellbeing encouraged people to Connect, Be Active, Take Notice, Keep Learning and Give.

“We are lucky to live in a community where people smile and say ‘hello’, and that people look out for others,” said Mayor Gibson.

“It is also great to get out and about being active, taking notice and volunteering our time to make our communities better places to live.”

Council has joined with Northern District Community Health, Kerang District Health, Cohuna District Hospital, Mallee District Aboriginal Service, Mallee Family Care, VicPolice and the Southern Mallee Primary Care Partnership to promote the initiative.

Mandy Hutchison, Chief Executive Officer of Northern District Community Health said that the Five Ways to Wellbeing was developed by the New Economics Foundation.

“It is proven that by practicing the Five Ways to Wellbeing every day, people will be happier and healthier,” said Ms Hutchinson.

“Saying ‘hello’ to a complete stranger, volunteering your time, enjoying a hobby or simply just taking the time to share a cup of tea with a friend or a neighbour you haven’t seen for a while, it all helps to create a community where everyone feels included and welcome.”

Five Ways to Wellbeing tea cards and magnets will be distributed through the community activities of each agency and from reception counters.
