Quambatook football and netball club members, local residents and those who use the town’s recreation reserve clubrooms gathered on Saturday, 11 May to mark the opening of the first stage of the facility’s redevelopment.

Gannawarra Shire Council, the State Government and groups that utilise the Quambatook Recreation Reserve clubrooms partnered for the $199,246 project, providing modern facilities for home and visiting football teams, officials and spectators.

The State Government provided $100,000 from its Community Sports Infrastructure Fund towards the project, with Council contributing $59,364. The Quambatook community and in-kind donations ensured the project proceeded.

“The completion of the first stage of the clubroom redevelopment means footballers are able to change and warm-up in modern facilities compared to what were located in the venue previously,” Deputy Mayor and Avoca Ward representative, Cr Charlie Gillingham said.

“The redeveloped clubrooms also boast expanded umpire changerooms that accommodate for both male and female umpires, whilst a multi-purpose room has been created for committee meetings and community gatherings.

“The completed works will also benefit the Quambatook Golf Club, which uses the venue’s clubrooms for weekly competitions during winter.”

The facility’s redevelopment began in 2018, overseen by local builder, David Knight and his team of employees.

Club and community members also played a critical role, taking part in many weekend and after hours working bees to paint the redeveloped sections of the clubrooms.

“The Quambatook Football Netball Club, visiting sides and football umpires are already benefiting from these works, which form Stage 1 of the Quambatook Recreation Reserve redevelopment,” Cr Gillingham said.

“Council congratulates all involved with this project and wishes the Quambatook Football Netball Club and the community all the best for the future.”
