TRIPLE J vie for THE ‘KEYS TO COHUNA’

Media Release

National radio station Triple J will be in Cohuna this week vying for the ‘Keys to Cohuna’.

Following a shout out on their afternoon ‘Drive’ show, Triple J’s Veronica and Lewis heard from Tahlia Ellery, who grew up in Cohuna. Now residing in Geelong, Tahlia is the daughter of local Councillor Sonia Wright.

“I was listening to the radio when they mentioned they were willing to do anything to be given the  ‘keys to a city’, with Mum on local council I figured it was the perfect opportunity for us to try to make something happen that would bring a lot of exposure to the Cohuna region,” Tahlia said.

“I sent a quick text and next thing I know they are ringing me to have a chat!”

Local Councillor Sonia Wright said as soon as Tahlia filled her in, she knew it was an opportunity that needed to be grabbed on to.

“Triple J has a national listening audience of over 1.9 million people, predominately in the younger demographic age group as well. To have access to that amount of people to promote and market Cohuna is an incredible opportunity,” Cr Wright said.

As part of the visit, Triple J are wanting to leave with the ‘Keys to Cohuna’. After speaking to Mayor Brian Gibson, Veronica and Lewis realised that keys don’t just get handed over. You have to earn them.

“In order to prick the attention of the listeners, we had to offer some challenges that were a little crazy and, as Cohuna is a dairy region and we have access to vets, I thought that preg-testing a cow would be an experience that these city guys would never have had exposure to!” explained Cr Wright.

“I made it pretty clear that gaining the ‘Keys to Cohuna’ would involve some grit and determination,” Mayor Brian Gibson said.

“The challenges set have been reflective of what Cohuna has to offer and what is important to the town, growing up and living here. Swimming in the creek, football and netball training, water skiing, and dairy farms are ingrained in the landscape of Cohuna.”

The challenges, as set by the Mayor, include:

1.      An early morning jump into Gunbower Creek.

2.     A ride on Elliot’s bus.

3.     Inspire the local roos

4.     Be our love doctors

5.     Perform a miracle

Deceptively cryptic, residents are able to come along and witness if Veronica and Lewis successfully complete the challenges and earn the ‘Keys to Cohuna’. For the full schedule of challenges and their locations, visit Council’s Facebook page.
