READSPEAKER NOW AVAILABLE ON COUNCIL’S WEBSITE

Media Release

Residents with visual impairments will now have better access to Council’s website following the installation of ReadSpeaker software.

Director Community Wellbeing Mandy Hutchinson said the disability inclusion software will enable users to listen to, rather than read, the content on Council’s website.

“ReadSpeaker provides greater accessibility for people who have visual impairments, limited literacy skills or English as a second language,” Ms Hutchinson explains.

“People can access ReadSpeaker by clicking the button at the top of any page on Council’s website and it will talk them through the information on that page.”

The ReadSpeaker logo is displayed at the top of the page and looks like this

“Text-to-speech technology offers benefits for residents and visitors to Council’s website and allows Council to respond to the different needs of each user in terms of how they interact with content on our website,” said Ms Hutchinson

“The ReadSpeaker software compliments other options for how residents can communicate with Council, including Live Chat; a program that enables people to chat directly with Council’s customer service staff via a web chat portal.”

ReadSpeaker is now available on Council’s website at www.gsc.vic.gov.au
