PROPERTY MAINTENANCE SERVICE CONTRACT

Media Release

Gannawarra Shire Council will deliver its Property Maintenance Service in-house from 1 February 2017 until 30 June 2017 following a resolution from Council in November.

Mayor Brian Gibson said Council has delivered a Property Maintenance service to residents in Gannawarra for over 30 years.

“The State and Federal governments fund this service and clients make a contribution to the service in addition to this. The service delivers lawn-mowing and basic garden maintenance and we accommodate 135 residents across the Shire,” Mayor Gibson explained.

“The aim of the service is to assist elderly members of the community and younger people with disabilities to maintain a safe, secure and healthy home environment to allow them to live independently at home and within the community,” he continued.

For the past three years the Property Maintenance Service has been delivered by local contractor Murray Human Services – Task Force, however, following a tender process, Council have now decided to bring the service in-house.

“Unfortunately, the tender submissions offered prices that were outside the funding and client contribution constraints, and the impact that would have on the existing operational budget was not feasible for the long term,” Mayor Gibson stated.

As a result, Council negotiated with Murray Human Services – Task Force to continue to deliver the service until 31 January 2017, allowing time for change management to be implemented.

It is intended that Council will consider future options for the delivery of the Property Maintenance Service from 1 July onwards at a meeting later in the year.

Council is hosting an afternoon tea to thank Murray Human Services - Task Force for their dedicated and professional service over the past 3 years.
