Gannawarra Shire Council is celebrating National Meals on Wheels Day!

National Meals on Wheels Day recognises the work of more than 75,000 volunteers across Australia, who over the course of a year, deliver 14 million meals to their clients.

Last financial year Gannawarra Shire Council’s team of 326 volunteers delivered more than 17,000 Meals on Wheels to residents in Kerang and Cohuna.

Mayor Cr Lorraine Learmonth, reinforces the fact that Meals on Wheels is so much more than just a meal, it offers three services in one; a meal delivered to your door, a safety and wellbeing check and a service that brings people together.

‘‘For our clients, Meals on Wheels volunteers are a friendly face, someone to chat to and someone who cares about their wellbeing."

‘‘Meals on Wheels is a fantastic service to be able to offer our community and it simply could not be done without our volunteers," Mayor Learmonth said.

To celebrate the day, volunteers and clients will be offered a free commemorative wrist band.

If you wish to volunteer or know someone who might need our service, please call our Customer Service Centre on 5450 9333.
