More than just a meal

Media Release

Gannawarra Shire Council celebrated National Meals on Wheels Day on August 30!

This day recognises the work contributed to local communities from more than 78,700 volunteers across the country.

Gannawarra Mayor Brian Gibson says Meals on Wheels is so much more than just a meal.

“Meals on Wheels offer three services in one; a meal delivered to your door, a safety and wellbeing check and a service that brings people together,” Mayor Gibson explains.

“For our clients, Meals on Wheel volunteers are a friendly face, someone to chat to and someone who cares about their wellbeing.”

Last financial year Gannawarra Shire Council’s Meals on Wheels volunteers delivered 15,510 meals to residents in Kerang and Cohuna.

Acting Director Community Wellbeing Narelle O’Donoghue says volunteers are critical to the success of the Meals on Wheels program.

“This fantastic service is able to be offered to our community because of the time, effort and dedication of all our wonderful volunteers. Without our volunteers this vital community service would not be able to be offered.”

Gannawarra Shire Council would like to thank all of the Meals on Wheels volunteers for their time and effort they put in to deliver this service to the community and remind volunteers to register their interest in the upcoming performance of ‘Glorious!’ being held at the Leitchville Memorial Hall on Wednesday 20 September.
