Children will have the chance to discover the process of making Claymation films during the school holidays.

Renowned illustrator, Steve Lo Casto will demonstrate how to make animated movies in the style of Wallace and Gromit and Shaun the Sheep during a workshop at the Cohuna Library on Tuesday 9 April from 11am.

“The Gannawarra Library Service is proud to welcome Steve to the area and show local children how to create movies using this unique format,” Gannawarra Library Service manager, Kerri Sidorow said.

“Claymation has grown in popularity in the past 30 years thanks to the Wallace and Gromit series of films, Australian director Adam Elliot’s 2003 Oscar Award-winning short movie Harvie Krumpet and the recent popularity of Shaun the Sheep.

The workshop provides participants with the tools and confidence they need to create their own animation using clay that is sculpted and moved. For each movement, a new digital photograph is taken, with a movie created when all the images are connected.

“Workshop participants will need to bring along an iPhone, iPad or compatible Android device on the day to take photos and to download the Stop Motion Studio app,” Mrs Sidorow said.

Admission to the 90-minute workshop, which is designed for young people aged between seven and 17 years, is $5 per person, which must be paid at the time of booking.

Bookings can be made by visiting either the Cohuna Library or Kerang’s Sir John Gorton Library.
