The talents of Gannawarra Shire Council’s young people will be showcased next week as part of a two-day arts workshop.

The Kerang Memorial Hall will host Live Light Painting workshops on Tuesday, January 22 and Wednesday, January 23, with places already filled.

“Workshops participants will learn how to create interactive animated paintings on an iPad and how to bring their artwork to life using sound and music,” Mayor Lorraine Learmonth said.

“This concept has been seen at events such as the White Night Festival and Vivid Sydney.”

The event will culminate on the Wednesday afternoon with participants and workshop leaders displaying their interactive and animated creations from 5pm.

Council received $10,000 in funding from the CommBank Centenary Foundation Grant to deliver this project aimed at improving health and wellbeing of young people living in Kerang and surrounds through the performing arts.

“Council has worked closely with a group of local young people as well as community leaders interested in performing arts to develop this project and is excited to be partnering with CommBank to present these workshops,” Mayor Learmonth said.

“The aim is to develop skills and confidence within the performing arts with the hope being that this will lead to the activation of the public spaces around the Shire.”
