L2P Program Supported

Media Release

The L2P Learner Driver Mentor Program supports young people living in the Gannawarra Shire aged between 16 and 21 years who would otherwise find it difficult to gain the required 120 hours of driving experience.

Director Community Wellbeing Stacy Williams said the L2P program relies on volunteer mentors, funding and sponsorship to deliver the service.

“Funding for the L2P Learner Driver Mentor Program is received from the Victorian Transport Accident Commission and managed by VicRoads,” said Mrs Williams.

“Our Gannawarra program has been sponsored by Swan Hill and Kerang Toyota for a third year and we are extremely appreciative of their support.”   Gannawarra L2P Project Coordinator Phillip Tennant said that the learner drivers are supported by community volunteers.

“There are currently 30 learner drivers active in the program who are supported by 13 volunteers,” said Mr. Tennant.

“The L2P Program is seeking additional volunteers to mentor the learner drivers as well as businesses or organisations that would sponsor the program. New sponsors would allow us to offer lessons by driving schools to our learner drivers and enhance their learning experience.”
