HEALTHY SWIMMING COLOURING COMPETITION
Media Release

Would you like to win a FREE 10 visit pass to a local pool for next summer? Here is your chance!

Gannawarra Shire Council is encouraging local residents to enter our Healthy Swimming Colouring Competition to raise awareness about keeping pools clean and safe.

Manager Community Health Narelle O’Donoghue says pool managers treat and maintain water quality to keep swimming pools clean, but there are simple things we can all do as a community to help keep pools pathogen-free and safe.

“Pathogens are microorganisms (bacteria, viruses and parasite) that can cause illness and these can be introduced to swimming pools and other recreational waterbodies when the water becomes contaminated,” Mrs O’Donoghue explains.

“Practicing good hygiene before swimming can prevent microbes on our bodies from contaminating pool water.”

Mayor Brian Gibson encourages the community to practice good hygiene before they jump in the pool for a swim.

“Simple things like not swimming if you have an upset tummy, washing your hands and body with soap before swimming and avoid swallowing pool water will make the swimming pools an enjoyable experience for the whole community,” Mayor Gibson said.

“Remember when you’re swimming, you’re sharing the water with everyone else swimming with you.”

Entrants can pick up a healthy swimming colouring picture from the Kerang or Cohuna swimming pools and submit it to the swimming pool office where they will be displayed.

All submissions must be in by 2 April, and the winner will be announced 5 of April. The winner will receive a 10 visit pass to the Kerang and/or Cohuna pool for next season.
