Gannawarra CEO Resignation

 Gannawarra Shire Council Chief Executive Officer Eric Braslis has resigned, effective 8 December 2017 and will take up the CEO position with Golden Plains Shire Council.

Mr Braslis joined Gannawarra Shire in July 2015 and leaves the organisation in a solid financial position and ready to meet head on the many challenges that small rural shires face.

Mayor Brian Gibson said while he was disappointed to receive the news, he is excited for Mr Braslis in the next phase of his career.

"Eric came to the Gannawarra Shire as a first time CEO in 2015 and has worked hard to develop his skill set, which is evident in his new appointment."

"He has embraced the opportunity to work in a rural setting and worked tirelessly with enormous commitment across all areas of Council," Mayor Gibson said.

Mr Braslis leaves Gannawarra having implemented many changes and improvements during his two year tenure at the helm of the organisation, including transitioning to an underlying operating surplus of $5.83 million, placing the organisation in a stronger financial position moving forward.

Mr Braslis said that he is grateful for the understanding and support of the Mayor and Councillors in announcing his resignation.

"I have enjoyed my time at Gannawarra and believe that as a Council we have introduced efficiencies and initiatives that will improve the organisation and wider municipality."

"Some particular highlights include introducing a more contemporary administrative process internally to enhance productivity within the organisation. I am also particularly proud of the introduction of a $500,000 program to support sport and recreation across the municipality."

"More recently, the sourcing of $800,000 in funding for the Koondrook Nature Based Tourism Hub and raising the profile of Gannawarra to the State Government through advocacy and representation on the Mallee Regional Partnerships Board is a particular achievement," Mr Braslis said.

Mayor Gibson said with Mr Braslis’ impending departure, Council will commence the recruitment process to fill a new CEO.

"On behalf of Council I would like to take the opportunity to acknowledge the contribution Eric has given to the Gannawarra Shire and wish him the very best in the future in his new role."
