EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST BEING SOUGHT FOR COUNTRY FOOTBALL NETBALL PROGRAM

MEDIA RELEASE

Local football and netball clubs have the opportunity to benefit from funding to rejuvenate their sports facilities through the Country Football and Netball Program, which was announced by the Victorian Government today.

Mayor Brian Gibson acknowledged that the Gannawarra Shire Council has been a recipient of the Country Football Netball Program in the past, and the results have been beneficial for the municipality and local sporting clubs and their facilities.

“This program is vital to local sporting clubs being able to improve the quality of country football and netball facilities across the shire for the benefit of the community,” Mayor Gibson said.

Grants of up to $100,000 are available for projects that improve facilities, including new or redeveloped change rooms, installation of improved turf, drainage and irrigation, new or upgraded netball courts or installation of sports lighting for courts or ovals.

The safety of Victorian sportspeople is important and Minister for Sport, John Erens said grassroots sports clubs in regional Victoria make our communities tick, but we need to give them the facilities they need to keep evolving.

“We want all Victorians to have access to safe, modern facilities that they can be proud of, no matter where they live,” he said.

Council are also seeking Expressions of Interest for the Community Sports Infrastructure Fund through the Minor Facilities, Cricket Facilities and Female Friendly Facilities categories.

“The way to do this is to submit an Expression of Interest to Council which demonstrates how your project aligns with the program guidelines and will increase or maintain participation. It also needs to provide an indicative budget, which can include matched funding from Council at a ratio of 1:1 of the cash contribution from the Club.”

The submission of an Expression of Interest to Council does not guarantee funding, however allows the process to begin through Council of assessing the projects and making a decision on a way forward to support identified projects.

Local sporting clubs who are interested in applying for either of these funding programs are encouraged to submit an Expression of Interest to Council by Friday 2 June for consideration. Forms guidelines are available on Council’s website at www.gannawarra.vic.gov.au.
