End of Year Council update

It’s been a busy few months for the recently elected Council group. Following elections in October and formal declaration into Council, the new Council group have undertaken a robust induction to Council, including sessions on financial planning and stewardship, governance and Code of Conduct along with completing the MAV ‘Working Together to Deliver’ program.

Mayor Brian Gibson says it has been busy yet informative process and the Councillors are looking forward to 2017.

“As a group, we have attended a number of informative sessions on the role of a Councillor and what we want to see for the future of Gannawarra Shire. As a group we are feeling optimistic for the future and look forward to working with Council staff and the community to achieve positive outcomes,” Mayor Gibson said.

Amongst the work to come for the new Council is the preparation of a new Council Plan, a Long Term Financial Plan and a Rating Strategy which all leads in to preparing a draft Budget in April 2017.

The Council Plan serves as a road-map to focus Council’s activities over the next four years as we continue to work towards a liveable, productive and sustainable municipality where opportunities are provided for all.

Mayor Gibson encourages the community to have their say by completing a short survey on Council’s website.

“By completing the survey Council are getting an insight into what the community see as the future of Gannawarra Shire. This information will assist in informing the Council Plan, and therefore the future direction of the Council,” Mayor Gibson said.

The first Council meeting in 2017 will be Wednesday 15 February in Kerang Council Chambers.
