COUNCIL SEEKING EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST FOR THE COMMUNITY SPORTS INFRASTRUCTURE FUND

MEDIA RELEASE

Expressions of Interest from local sporting clubs and organisations in Gannawarra are being called for with the potential to seek funding for projects in 2018/19 through the Community Sports Infrastructure Fund (CSIF).

The CSIF is a Victorian Government funding program that helps provide high quality, accessible community sport and recreation facilities across Victoria.

Mayor Brian Gibson explains that only local government authorities are able to apply directly to the Victorian Government for funding from this program.

“Community organisations can only seek access to support from the fund through the Minor Facilities, Cricket Facilities and Female Friendly Facilities categories,” Mayor Gibson explains.

“The way to do this is to submit an Expression of Interest to Council which demonstrates how your project will increase or maintain participation, encourages participation by females, juniors, improves health and wellbeing of the community and encourages development of shared facilities. It also needs to provide an indicative budget, which can include matched funding from Council at a ratio of 1:1 of the cash contribution from the Club.”

The submission of an Expression of Interest to Council does not guarantee funding, however allows the process to begin through Council of assessing the projects and making a decision on a way forward to support identified projects.

Minister for Sport John Eren says local sports clubs are the lifeblood of small towns, “This is about giving our grassroots sporting clubs the facilities they deserve and can be proud of,” he said.

Mayor Brian Gibson says Gannawarra Shire has been successful in the past two years through the CSIF which included Quambatook Football Netball Club receiving $100,000 for their female friendly change room upgrade and Cohuna Football Netball Club receiving $72,000 for their female facilities upgrade.

“Any clubs wishing to discuss a project should contact council and interested community organisations need to have their Expression of Interest into Council by 5.00pm 2 June 2017” Mayor Gibson said.
