Gannawarra Shire Council and the Cohuna Kangas Football Netball Club officially opened the Cohuna Recreation Reserve Lighting Project on Saturday August 18, 2018.

Yarran Ward Councillor Sonia Wright said the opening took place before the Senior’s football match between Cohuna and Woorinen and was officially opened by special guest Mr Mark Gepp, Member for Northern Victoria.

“We were delighted that Mr Gepp was able to attend the official opening of this project,” said Cr. Wright.

“The project involved the upgrade of the lighting on the first oval as well as one of the netball courts.”

The project consists of 4 x 32m poles, each set with 10 x 2000W lights. In addition 4 x 10m poles with 2 x 1000W lights were installed around one of the netball courts.

Cr. Wright said the project was made possible through joint funding efforts.

“The project includes contributions from both Council and the Cohuna Kangas Football Netball Club along with a generous funding amount of $100,000 from the Victorian State Government’s Country Football Netball Program,” explained Cr. Wright.

“The contract for the lighting upgrade was awarded to Steven Orr Electrical, and it was great to see a Cohuna local undertake the work involved in bringing this project to fruition.”

This project follows the completed female facilities and change-rooms and supports the strategic focus to upgrade elements throughout the Cohuna Recreation Reserve to ensure that the precinct is well placed to host sporting and community events into the future.
