COHUNA AERODROME

mEDIA RELEASE

Residents of the Cohuna community can be reassured that the Cohuna Aerodrome has been confirmed as ‘more than satisfactory’ for immediate medical services.

Mayor Brian Gibson said that a recent meeting of all key stakeholders including Cohuna Hospital, Ambulance Victoria, Air Ambulance and its contracted fixed wing operator Pel-Air reaffirmed the position of the Cohuna Aerodrome.

“The Cohuna community has, and will continue to have, first class access to immediate medical services in Cohuna.”

“Patient safety is the most important aspect and that has never, and will never, be compromised,” Mayor Gibson said.

Cohuna hospital CEO Michael Delahunty said in an emergency, the aerodrome is more than satisfactory for the use of Air Ambulance planes.

“In an emergency Ambulance Victoria will use road, fixed wing or helicopter transport, depending on the condition of the patient and the most appropriate resource for the patient at that time,” Mr Delahunty said.

The meeting covered a range of topics relating to the Cohuna Aerodrome, including its operational status and current processes for transferring patients, but the overall message was that the current status of the aerodrome meets the usage needs of Ambulance Victoria and its contracted fixed wing operator Pel-Air.

“Everyone involved is extremely disappointed and concerned by the inaccurate comments and suggestions that have been circulating the past few months,” Mayor Gibson said.

“These comments have caused extreme anxiety within the community and we are now seeking to allay  these fears and concerns by reassuring the community that the key stakeholders all agree that the condition of the Cohuna Aerodrome, including the length of the runway, are more than satisfactory,” Mayor Gibson explains.

“Rest assured, our community is in safe hands.”
