CHILDREN’S WEEK EVENTS IN GANNAWARRA
Media Release

Children’s Week 2017 will be celebrated across the state from Saturday 21 until Sunday 29 October, with hundreds of activities offered to children and families, including two FREE events in Kerang and Cohuna for local families.

Mayor Brian Gibson says that this year’s theme is based on developing children’s personalities and talents to the full.

“Children's Week is a national program recognising the talents, skills, achievements and rights of young people.”

“During Children’s Week Gannawarra Shire Council will be hosting two free events offering lots of fun activities aimed at children 8 years and under including story time, face painting and a performance by the highly entertaining Odd-Sock Circus.”

During the events Gannawarra Library Service will be launching their 1,000 Books before School program which Mayor Gibson says encourages reading with your child to develop literacy skills before school and creates a love of books.

The events will also incorporate the MAV 100 Years of Maternal Child Health in Victoria celebrations, with councils MCH nurses in attendance to celebrate with families.

The first Children’s Week event will take place on Tuesday 24 October in Cohuna between 10am and 12noon on the Civic Centre Lawn with the second event to be held in Kerang on Thursday 26 October between 10am and 12noon outside the Sir John Gorton Library.

“We invite all families and children to come along and join in on the free celebrations,” says Mayor Gibson.
