Media Release

Gannawarra Shire Council will meet to adopt the Proposed 2017/18 Budget and 2017 – 2021 Council Plan at its Ordinary meeting on Wednesday 28 June 2017 at 7.00pm.

Mayor Brian Gibson said that the proposed Budget and Draft Council Plan has been out for public exhibition since 20 April.

“Over a five week period Councillors and staff met with local community planning and progress groups and held two open forums as a way to communicate the messages delivered in the Proposed Budget and Council Plan to inform our community as best as we can about these important documents and obtain feedback,” Mayor Gibson said.

Following the public exhibition period, Council received a number of submissions relating to the Draft 2017 – 2021 Council Plan and Proposed 2017/18 Budget, specifically relating to the intention to transition to a single uniform rate for all ratepayers over the 4 year term of Council.

Council heard from 19 of these submitters at a public meeting held on Tuesday 13 June.

“Council is dedicated to continually providing quality services and delivering improvements to our community in a cost efficient and responsible manner,” Mayor Gibson stated.

Highlights of the Proposed Budget include over $9 million of investments into the Capital Works program and continued support for key community services, including a dedicated resource to sport, recreation and leisure.

“We currently find ourselves in an environment of rate capping and reduced opportunities for funding, therefore we aim to be collaborative, resourceful and innovative to ensure that our community grows and prospers.”

Copies of the final adopted 2017/18 Budget and 2017 – 2021 Council Plan will be located on Council’s website at www.gsc.vic.gov.au following the meeting.
