BEYOND THE BATTLE SCREENING

MEDIA RELEASE

On 11 November following the community Remembrance Day Service in Cohuna, the Gannawarra Shire Council will screen Part 1 of their Beyond the Battle Project.

Mayor of the Gannawarra Shire Council Brian Gibson says the two year project funded by the Victoria Remembers Program is aimed at recognising and telling the stories of our World War One service men and women.

“This screening captures the information and images we have found to date, and we will continue to build on that information for the final screening in Kerang on Remembrance Day 2018. All research data collected for the project, including images and documents, will then be a permanent record and publicly accessible through the Gannawarra Library Services” explains Mayor Gibson.

The Gannawarra Shire Council currently have 1,100 names on the Beyond the Battle files that have been taken from honour boards and project research with the project widely supported by the community.

“A lot of work goes in to a project like this and I would especially like to thank, all the people that have come forward with information, members of the Project Steering Committee, the Cohuna Historical Society (with a special mention for Joy Calder), Ted Jackson for providing the commentary, Betta Electrical Kerang for the use of their TVs for our screening event, The Department of Premier and Cabinet’s Victoria Remembers program for their funding support, Our Arts and Culture Officer Kirsty Orr for conceiving this project, Manager of Libraries Kerri Sidorow for her guidance and support, and lastly but certainly not least, our Beyond the Battle Project Officer Kristie Dean. Kristie brings a great range of skills to the project, but most importantly for her it has been a labour of love and we are the beneficiaries” says Mayor Gibson.

The Beyond the Battle Part One Screening event will offer morning tea at the Cohuna Memorial Hall from 11.30am with Part One of the film to show at 12 noon. Entry is free and all are welcome.
