2019 Theatre Performance Program

Media Release

Gannawarra Shire Council is pleased to announce that it will deliver seven theatre performances in partnership with the community in 2019.

Mayor Lorraine Learmonth said that Council has been highly successful in delivering theatre performances in partnership with the community over the past three years and the 2019 program is the result of community members and Council’s Arts and Culture Officer attending ‘Showcase Victoria’ earlier this year.

“Over two days community members were treated to back to back performance previews at ‘Showcase Victoria’ and selected shows that would suit their community,” explained Mayor Learmonth.

“Community members have selected a variety of performance genres ranging from serious theatre through to comedy and children’s shows. Each show is tailored by community organisers to capture the unique spirit of their community.”

Regional Arts Victoria collaborates to deliver these high quality performances to rural communities with the program jointly funded by Gannawarra Shire Council and Creative Victoria.

Gannawarra Shire Council was recognised for its innovative approach to delivering a performing arts program in partnership with the community winning the Arts Animates National Award for Local Government in June 2018.

“It is fabulous to be nationally recognised for our approach to working in partnership with our communities to deliver such enjoyable and unique experiences across our shire,” said Mayor Learmonth.

The 2019 performance calendar is scheduled as below:

A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Lake Meran - January 17
Splash Test Dummies, Kerang - April 11
Swansong, Cohuna - May 25
