2019 Public Immunisations

Media Release

Gannawarra Shire Council’s 2019 immunisation program will commence on Wednesday January 2, 2019 at the Gannawarra Children’s Centre in Kerang.

Mayor Lorraine Learmonth said Council will continue to provide three immunisation sessions each month, with one morning session held in Cohuna and a morning and afternoon session held in Kerang.

“Council’s immunisation sessions are well supported by the community and ensure that children are able to receive their scheduled vaccinations on time,” said Mayor Learmonth.

“No appointments are necessary for vaccines listed on the National Childhood Immunisation Schedule and our sessions are entirely free and accessible to everyone.”

Morning immunisation sessions will be held in Kerang at the Gannawarra Children’s Centre between 10.30am and 12noon on the first Wednesday of the month, while afternoon session will be held in Kerang between 4pm and 5.30pm on the third Wednesday of each month.

Cohuna immunisation sessions will be held at the Maternal Child and Health Centre between 10.30am and 12.00pm on the third Wednesday of each month.

The latest immunisation coverage rates released for children up to 5.25 years show that Gannawarra Shire exceeds the state average.

“Gannawarra has achieved a childhood immunisation coverage rate of 96.55% compared to the statewide average of 95.3%,” said Mayor Learmonth.

“This is a fantastic effort by our local health services, parents and carers for ensuring timely protection of infants and children against vaccine preventable diseases.”
