Please note that the Murrabit West Road end of Browning Avenue and Browning Avenue just after the Murrabit Recreation Reserve Gates will be closed to all traffic from 10am on Friday 16 February.

No cars are able to park within this area. All parking is required to be at the Recreation Reserve/Tennis Court area with the Community Celebration event to be held at the front of the school building commencing at 10:30am. The Queen’s Baton Convoy will arrive at 10:44am at the front of the Murrabit Group School. The relay commences at 11:29am and travels from the school along Browning Ave and turns left into Gonn Ave, left into Laursen St, Whiter St, Danson St and back to Gonn Ave.

The convoy will then turn right and proceed back past the Murrabit Lions Park, Murrabit Fire Station, Murrabit Store and Tavern and ends at the Murrabit Golf Course gate. Just before the relay commences at 11:29am there will be time to walk quickly down to the town via the sealed walking track or back to vehicles where you will be able to drive out the Murrabit Recreation Reserve gates, across the Murrabit Market Site or via Church Street to take up your chosen spot along the relay route. Please remember to park well clear of the relay route(the suggestion is that you park around the Murrabit Hall, Murrabit Lions Park, opposite the Murrabit Store, or if you are wanting to see the end of the relay, in the Murrabit Golf Club car park).

Please note that all roads within the town will be closed for the ½ hour that the relay takes place so once you park your vehicle you will need to walk or remain where you are until the relay has finished at approx. 11:57am at the Murrabit Golf Course gate. The convoy then proceeds to Kerang by road. We have been advised that the Queen’s Baton Convoy and baton bearers move at 5 kilometres per hour so there is time to move by foot from one position along the relay route to another.

Once the baton leaves Murrabit, roads and streets will be re-opened and you are invited to drive or walk back to the Murrabit Group School to enjoy a sausage sizzle put on by the Murrabit & District Lions Club. While the relay occurs in the town, please also note that Gonn Avenue will be closed to all traffic from the intersection of River Road and the Murrabit Cross Roads. A detour via Begelhole Road will be in place during this time.

The Queen’s Baton Convoy is 80 metres long and when proceeding along the route up to 400 metres in length. It will be a spectacular sight and you are encouraged to be part of the celebration and enjoy this once in a lifetime opportunity! There are 10 baton bearers at Murrabit.

Please see attached map for baton relay times.
